The flamingos aren't on the beach around the clock, but they do keep a consistent daily rhythm. Most arrive between 6 and 8 AM and stay until late afternoon, spending roughly eight to ten hours on the island before flying back to the mainland to roost.
Morning arrival
Birds fly in from mainland roosting sites in small groups of two to six, gradually building to the full population through the morning rather than arriving all at once. Cooler months shift arrival closer to 7 AM, while summer sees them arrive slightly earlier.
Through the day
Expect to see feeding in the shallow lagoon, preening, and the classic one legged resting pose. Midday is their quietest period, when some seek shade under the mangroves or cool off in deeper water.
Evening departure
As the island closes around 5 to 6 PM, the flamingos head back to mainland roosting sites near the airport's salt flats and protected mangrove areas, departing gradually over the following hour rather than all at once.
